GRAHAME, James Allan, fur trader, chief commissioner of HBC 1874–84 (b 22 Dec 1825, Edinburgh, Scotland; d 19 June 1905, Victoria). He joined the HBC as an apprentice clerk in 1842 and arrived on the COLUMBIA R 2 years later. He rose rapidly through the ranks and was in charge of the company's Oregon affairs by 1858.
