GRANISLE () , village, pop 337 (2021), is on the west side of BABINE LK, about 55 km east of SMITHERS. Established in 1965 with the opening of an open-pit COPPER mine on nearby Sterret Island, it got a further boost in 1972 when Noranda Mines opened the Bell copper mine. In 1981 Noranda took over the original mine as well. The economy, which is totally dependent on MINING, suffered a severe shock in 1992 when Noranda closed the Bell mine....
