GRANITE CREEK is an abandoned MINING town 19 km west of PRINCETON on Granite Crk. In July 1885 a cowboy named John Chance found GOLD nuggets in the creek and within 3 months a town sprang up. For a short time it was the third-largest community in BC, but when it became clear that gold was not abundant, the hotels and saloons closed and the miners drifted away. The town survived as a tiny service centre for local mining camps until 1907, when fire destroyed most of the buildings.
