GROUSE is a chicken-sized game bird. It nests on the ground and feeds primarily on conifer needles, tree buds and insects. Adaptations to the cold include feathered legs and, in some species, feather-covered feet and nostrils. Of 9 species in Canada, 4 occur in BC.
