Halpern, Ida (Ruhdorfer)


HALPERN, Ida (Ruhdorfer), musicologist (b 17 July 1910, Vienna, Austria; d 7 Feb 1987, Vancouver). She was a talented musician and scholar. With her husband Georg, a chemist, she joined the exodus of Jews from Austria following the 1938 invasion by Germany. The couple fled to Shanghai, then immigrated to VANCOUVER in 1939. Halpern became a music teacher and an active force in the local music scene. She was founding president of the Friends of Chamber Music, a director of the symphony orchestra...
