Heiltsuk

HEILTSUK  () First Nation, or Bella Bella people, traditionally occupied the Central Coast along FITZ HUGH SOUND and up Burke Channel and DEAN CHANNEL. Their language is Oowekyala-Heiltsuk (see FIRST NATIONS LANGUAGES) and they are related to the KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl) and HAISLA within the Northern subgroup of the WAKASHAN family.
