HEINZE, Frederick Augustus, industrialist (b 5 Dec 1869, Brooklyn, NY; d 1914). A graduate MINING engineer, he was already owner of a COPPER smelter in Montana when he arrived in BC in 1895 looking to invest in the ROSSLAND mining boom. He purchased property at the future site of TRAIL and in 1896 built a SMELTER, still one of the province's major industrial facilities.
