Herring, Pacific


HERRING, PACIFIC (Clupea harangus pallassi) is a small pelagic fish found on the continental shelf in the eastern Pacific from Baja in Mexico north to the Beaufort Sea and in the western Pacific along the coast of Asia. It is a member of the family Clupeidae, which includes Pacific SARDINES (pilchards) and American shad. Herring congregate in vast schools that can cover several square kilometres. They migrate from offshore summer feeding areas in the late fall and early winter to shallow bays...
