Higgins, David Williams

HIGGINS, David Williams, journalist, politician (b 30 Nov 1834, Halifax, NS; d 30 Nov 1917, Victoria). He was raised in New York City and trained as a printer, then moved to San Francisco in 1856 and founded a NEWSPAPER. In 1858 he followed the lure of GOLD to BC, where he became a prospector and ran a store in YALE. He moved to VICTORIA in 1860 and joined the British Colonist, recently founded by Amor DE COSMOS.
