Hoy, Chow Dong

HOY, Chow Dong, entrepreneur, photographer (b 2 July 1883, Sui Soon Lee, China; d Mar 1973, Quesnel). He came to BC in 1902 and worked as a houseboy in VANCOUVER. Three years later he moved to the CARIBOO, where he worked at a variety of jobs. While living in BARKERVILLE in 1909 he taught himself PHOTOGRAPHY, and when he moved to QUESNEL in 1911 he became the town's first professional photographer. He also operated a store, C.D.
