Humphreys, Thomas Basil


HUMPHREYS, Thomas Basil, politician, (b 10 Mar 1840, Liverpool, England; d 26 Aug 1890, Victoria). He came to BC in 1858 to join the GOLD RUSH but instead served as a police constable at HOPE and PORT DOUGLAS until 1860. He then became a miner and auctioneer at LILLOOET, but politics became his primary activity. As a member of the legislative council in 1868–71, he was a strong advocate of union with Canada.
