HUTTON, Ralph, swimmer (b 6 Mar 1948, Ocean Falls). The "iron man" of Canadian SWIMMING joined the national team at age 15 with legendary OCEAN FALLS coach George Gate. Hutton won a bronze in the 1,500-m freestyle and a silver and bronze in relays at the 1963 Pan American Games. He didn't bring home a medal from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics but he and Ocean Falls teammate Sandy Gilchrist performed better than any Canadian male swimmers since the 1920s.
