HYDAH, 10 km north of SKIDEGATE on Graham Island in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, was a tiny homesteading settlement with a brief life prior to WWI. It was centred on the store of William Leary, former manager of the Skidegate oil works. Hydah is an alternative spelling of HAIDA, which simply means "the people" in the Haida language.
