Igali, Daniel

IGALI, Daniel, wrestler (b 3 Feb 1974, Port Harcourt, Nigeria). He came to BC in 1994 as a member of the Nigerian WRESTLING team at the COMMONWEALTH GAMES in VICTORIA, and after the games decided to remain in Canada. He wrestled at SFU and began winning major international competitions in 1997. Igali won a world championship in the 69-kilo category in 1999, followed by a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, becoming the first Canadian wrestler to win Olympic gold.
