INVERMERE, district municipality, pop 2,858 (2001), lies in the COLUMBIA R Valley at the north end of Windermere Lk, 130 km north of CRANBROOK. With the ROCKY MTS on one side and the PURCELL MTS on the other, the site was used for fishing by the KTUNAXA nation. David THOMPSON built KOOTENAE HOUSE nearby in 1807.
