KEATE, James Stuart "Stu," journalist (b 13 Oct 1913, Vancouver; d 1 Mar 1987, Vancouver). He grew up in Point Grey and attended UBC, where he was editor of The Ubyssey student newspaper. After graduating in 1935 he joined the VANCOUVER PROVINCE as a sports reporter. He remained with the Province, with an interlude at the Toronto Star from 1938 to 1939, until the war, when he served in the navy as an information officer.
