Keithley Creek

KEITHLEY CREEK was an early MINING camp and supply centre 85 km northeast of WILLIAMS LAKE on Cariboo Lk. It was named after W.R. "Doc" Keithley, who hit the jackpot here with several companions in 1860 and started the Cariboo GOLD RUSH. The creek itself was soon played out and most miners moved farther north, but a roadhouse and store flourished here for many years and a number of ranchers (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) and homesteaders settled in the district.
