Khorana, Har Gobind

KHORANA, Har Gobind, scientist (b 9 Jan 1922, Raipur, India). After growing up in an impoverished family, he won scholarships to school and eventually earned degrees in organic chemistry at Punjab Univ and a PhD from Univ of Liverpool in 1968. He grew frustrated at being denied advancement in England because of racial prejudice and in 1952 accepted an invitation to pursue his research in organic chemistry at the BC Research Council at UBC.
