King George's Sound Co


KING GEORGE'S SOUND CO, also known as Richard Cadman Etches and Co, was a business syndicate formed in London, England, in 1785 to carry on the trade for SEA OTTER pelts on the BC coast. Its name refers to James COOK's original name for NOOTKA SOUND. Two of the company's principal investors, Nathaniel PORTLOCK and George DIXON, spent the summers of 1786 and 1787 on the coast; in 1786 the company dispatched a second expedition under Charles DUNCAN.
