KITCHENER, pop 264, is a community 13.5 km east of CRESTON in the E KOOTENAY near the GOAT R. The townsite was surveyed in 1899 and named for Earl Kitchener, the British Imperial war hero. MINING and the FOREST INDUSTRY have been important to the economy, though it is mainly a residential community.
