KOOTENAY SCHOOL OF WRITING (KSW), the first writer-run centre in Canada, was founded in 1983 in response to the closure of the David Thompson University Centre in NELSON (see NOTRE DAME UNIV OF NELSON) and began operating in VANCOUVER the next year.
