KURIKKA, Matti, Finnish community leader, journalist (b 24 Jan 1863, Tuutari, Russia; d 1 Oct 1915, Westerly, RI). He was a socialist journalist and playwright in his native Finland when he founded the Kalevan Kansa ("the people of Kaleva") Colonization Company in 1899 to establish a utopian community in Australia.
