KWAH, Carrier (Dakelh) chief (b circa 1755, Stuart Lake; d summer 1840, Fort St James). When FUR TRADERS arrived to build FORT ST JAMES on Stuart Lk in 1806, he was chief of the nearby village and became one of the principal suppliers of furs and fish to the post. He was involved in 1828 when a group of DAKELH invaded Fort St James and threatened to kill James DOUGLAS. The incident stemmed from the murder by 2 Dakelh people of 2 HBC men several years earlier.
