Lee, Norman


LEE, Norman, rancher (b 1862, England; d Mar 1939, Lee's Corner). He went to the CHILCOTIN in 1884 to establish a ranch west of HANCEVILLE, in partnership with Hugh Bayliff. In 1898 he tried to drive a herd of 200 cattle 2,400 km to the Klondike to feed the miners during the GOLD RUSH. The drive bogged down at TESLIN LK, where Lee butchered the herd, loaded the meat onto scows and continued by water. A storm destroyed the scows and all the meat was lost.
