LIKELY, pop 375, located 94 km east of WILLIAMS LAKE where the Quesnel R enters QUESNEL LK, was a GOLD mining camp named for John Likely (1842–1929), a prospector with a taste for philosophy. During the 1920s he lectured his fellow miners on the fine points of the philosophy of Plato and Socrates.
