LORNE CREEK, a former riverboat landing and GRAND TRUNK PACIFIC RWY flag station on the west side of the SKEENA R, 50 km northeast of TERRACE, was a rich GOLD placer-mining site in the 1880s. Just upstream where the river swirls round a bend is the Devil's Elbow, a danger to navigation.
