LOUIE, Alexina Diane, composer (b 30 July 1949, Vancouver). One of Canada's leading contemporary composers, she was born in CHINATOWN in VANCOUVER and began playing the piano at age 7. After studying composition at UBC and the Univ of California at San Diego she lived in Los Angeles for several years before moving to Toronto in 1980 to teach at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
