Lowery, Robert Thornton

LOWERY, Robert Thornton, editor, publisher (b 12 Apr 1859, Halton County, ON; d 20 May 1921, Grand Forks). Only a little over 5 ft tall (152 cm), "Colonel" Bob nevertheless loomed large on the KOOTENAY newspaper scene for more than 27 years. His feisty publications appeared all over the Kootenay, SLOCAN and BOUNDARY districts. His famous tombstone edition of the Kaslo Claim (25 Aug 1893) identified merchants with delinquent accounts by displaying advertisements upside down (unpaid) or sideways...
