LUMBERTON is an abandoned mill town 13 km southwest of CRANBROOK in the E KOOTENAY. It was founded in 1910 as Wattsburg after A.E. Watts, the original owner of the SAWMILL. In 1922 he sold the mill to BC Spruce Mills Ltd; the operation was expanded into the largest in the Interior, supporting a population of 250. In 1941 the mill closed and the town gradually disappeared.
