MacNeill, Mary

MacNEILL, Mary, medical doctor (b circa 1859, Bruce County, ON; d unknown). At the death of her father she inherited enough money to undertake medical studies at Women's Medical College of Chicago from 1887 to 1891. She moved to California, then in 1893 to VICTORIA, where she was the first woman registered to practise medicine in BC. In 1907 she returned to Ontario to care for a widowed brother. A devout Baptist, she gave up medicine at that time in favour of religious work.
