MACKENZIE, district municipality, pop 3,281 (2021), nestles in the ROCKY MT TRENCH at the south end of WILLISTON RESERVOIR, in 1999 the largest artificial lake in N America, 190 km north of PRINCE GEORGE. Named for the FUR TRADE explorer Alexander MACKENZIE, this was an instant community created in 1966 with the development of a FOREST INDUSTRY complex on the shores of the lake.
