MAZAMA, a ranching and farming district (see CATTLE INDUSTRY; AGRICULTURE) 53 km northwest of PENTICTON, was first settled in 1913 by John S. Chapman, a British lawyer, who ran a ranch here with his sons until the 1950s. Located where an old trail from PRINCETON to the OKANAGAN VALLEY crossed Trout Crk, the site was first known as Princeton Crossing. More settlers arrived after the KETTLE VALLEY RWY passed through in 1914; a station was built 3 km west at Osprey Lk.
