McLARNIN, Jimmy "Baby Face," boxer (b 19 Dec 1907, Belfast, Ireland; d 28 Oct 2004, Richland, WA). He arrived in VANCOUVER as a youngster with his family and at 12 began BOXING under the coaching of ex-longshoreman Charles "Pop" Foster. At 16 McLarnin moved to California and turned professional, winning his first 19 bouts. He then moved on to New York, where he became known as "the Irish Hero" and the most popular boxer of his era.
