McLEESE LAKE, pop 261, 43 km north of WILLIAMS LAKE on the CARIBOO Hwy, is a small resort and ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) community named for Robert McLeese, a SODA CREEK hotelier and politician. The nearby Gibraltar open-pit COPPER–MOLYBDENUM mine operated from 1972 to 1998, then re-opened in 2004.
