MENGHI, Umberto, restaurateur (b 24 Oct 1946, Pontedera, Italy). He began working in restaurants in his native Italy when he was 12. After 3 years at hotel college he went to work in London, then came to Canada for Expo 67 to work at a Montreal hotel. When the fair ended he moved west to VANCOUVER and opened his first restaurant, Umberto's, in 1973.
