MENZIES, Archibald, botanist and naval officer (b 15 Mar 1754, Weem, Scotland; d 15 Feb 1842, London, England). A trained botanist and physician, he joined the Royal Navy in 1782 as an assistant surgeon. Wherever he travelled on naval expeditions he collected seeds and specimens of native plants and made botanical drawings.
