MOORE, William, steamboat captain (b 30 Mar 1822, Hanover, Germany; d 29 Mar 1909, Victoria). At an early age he sailed the North Sea and eventually arrived in New Orleans. He served in the war with Mexico in 1848, then moved to San Francisco and on to BC, where he was a leading captain and owner of PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS on the FRASER R during the GOLD RUSH era.
