Murray, David "Dave"


MURRAY, David "Dave," skier (b 5 Sept 1953, Abbotsford; d 24 Oct 1990, Vancouver). Named to the Canadian national alpine ski team in 1971, he emerged as the unofficial leader of the "Crazy Canucks," the daredevil group of Canadian skiers that included Dave Irwin, Ken Read and Steve Podborski. After winning the 1978 Europa Cup in Italy and twice placing 2nd during the 1978–79 season, Murray was ranked as the 3rd-best downhill skier in the world.
