MURRE () is a medium-sized, short-necked seabird related to the auk. On land it struts about, much like a penguin. It has a dark head and back and a snow-white belly. Murres come to land only to breed in dense colonies on coastal cliffs and islets; otherwise they congregate on their marine feeding grounds, where they fish by diving.
