NADEN HARBOUR, an inlet on the north coast of Graham Island in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, was the site of a WHALING station 34 km west of MASSET. Built in 1911 by Canadian North Pacific Fisheries, it was acquired by Consolidated Whaling of Toronto in 1918 and operated continuously until 1942, with 3 ships pursuing mostly finback and sperm WHALES. The name is a HAIDA word that refers to the harbour's numerous aboriginal settlements.
