NAMU is a FISHING community on the Central Coast, near the mouth of Burke Channel. There is evidence the site has been used by aboriginal people (see FIRST NATIONS) for at least 11,000 years, making it the oldest recorded place of human habitation on the coast and the longest continuously occupied site in Canada (see also ARCHAEOLOGY).
