NELSEN, Nels Johan, ski jumper (b 3 June 1894, Salengen, Norway; d 1943). In 1912 he immigrated to REVELSTOKE, the base from which he became the world's top SKI jumper. Not long after he arrived in Canada he began winning national championships and setting world records. His best jump, 240 ft (73.15 m) in 1924, stood as the international benchmark for 7 years.
