Nicholson

NICHOLSON, pop 500, a residential suburb 7 km south of GOLDEN on the COLUMBIA R, was named after Dan Nicholson, the first postmaster. It was the site of the Interior's first RAILWAY LOGGING operation, from the mid-1890s to the 1920s. The Columbia River Lumber Co hauled timber to the river here and floated it downstream to its large SAWMILL at Golden.
