NIGHTHAWK and poorwill belong to the nightjar (or goatsucker) family of birds, a group of nocturnal INSECT-eaters with enormous wide mouths, large flat heads, large eyes, tiny bills and intricately patterned brown or grey plumage that conceals them by day when they roost on the ground.
