NUTCRACKER, CLARK'S (Nucifraga columbiana), is a medium-sized member of the CROW family. It is a white bird with black wing feathers and white wing and tail patches. It is widespread east of the COAST MTS in the southern Interior. Associated specifically with higher-altitude whitebark PINE forests, this bird has a long, pointed black beak with which it extracts the pine cone seeds that form the bulk of its diet.
