O'Keefe, Cornelius

O'KEEFE, Cornelius, rancher (b 26 July 1838, Fallowfield, ON; d 27 May 1919, Vernon). Raised on a farm in the Ottawa Valley, he came to BC in 1862 to try his luck in the Cariboo goldfields (see GOLD RUSH, CARIBOO). He failed to make a strike, so he went to work shipping supplies and building roadhouses, and in 1866 he began importing cattle to supply meat to the miners.
