ODLUM, Victor Wentworth, soldier, journalist (b 21 Oct 1880, Cobourg, ON; d 4 Apr 1971, Vancouver). The son of Edward ODLUM and his first wife Mary Powell, he arrived in VANCOUVER in 1889 with his widowed father. During the Boer War he fought in S Africa with the Royal Canadian Rifles and in WWI he served with distinction on the Western Front. In Nov 1915 he helped organize the first Allied trench raid of the war; it was a tactic that became a regular practice in the British and French armies....
