Ombudsman


OMBUDSMAN, Office of, was created in 1979 to conduct investigations into complaints about ministries of the provincial government, CROWN CORPORATIONS, municipalities, universities and the governing bodies of professions. The ombudsman has the power to compel witnesses to appear and to subpoena documents, though findings take the form of recommendations. The ombudsman is appointed by the legislature for a 6-year term.
