OONA RIVER is a small collection of houses sprawling along a river ESTUARY on the eastern side of PORCHER ISLAND, 40 km south of PRINCE RUPERT. It was settled by Scandinavian homesteaders about 1907 in anticipation of the arrival of the railway at Prince Rupert. A SAWMILL was built in the 1920s and LOGGING and commercial FISHING have been the major activities. Ralph EDWARDS retired here from Lonesome Lake in 1966.
