OPOSSUM, North American (Didelphis virginiana), is a cat-sized mammal with a white face, long pointed nose, coarse black and white hair, a long prehensile tail and hind feet with an opposable toe adapted for climbing. It is the only opossum species in BC. Native to eastern N America, it was introduced to Washington state in 1925 and had begun to spread north to BC by 1946.
